The 10,000 Hours Show(10K) is an annual concert and community festival featuring a nationally-known performer, for which tickets are only available in exchange for service to the community.  In 2007 10K officially spun off from the James Gang to become a national program under the United Way of America.

fast facts ::

•  In its first year, nearly 900 volunteers of all-ages registered to perform at least 10 hours of community service at one or more local community organization in exchange for a ticket to see nationally-known pop piano performer Ben Folds.

•  To our knowledge this is a unique idea with an organizational model that has never been attempted before.

•  Partnered with over 90 community organizations across the state of Iowa.

•  Raised nearly $60,000 to fund the endeavor including a $20,000 matching grant from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

•  In 2004, fostered the performance of over 13,572 hours of community service in the local economy and had a total of 432 volunteers performed enough service to receive a concert ticket.

•  In 2005, the project went state wide and is open to any volunteer and community organization in the state of Iowa.

•  In 2005, Guster performed live April 17th in Iowa City celebrating over 20,000 Hours of community service by over 1,600 volunteers in 31 Iowa counties with over 130 nonprofit organizations.

•  In 2006, the 10,000 Hours Show continued it's statewide expansion with Cake performing at Veterans' Memorial Stadium on April 8th.

•  In 2007, the program grew large enough to have two separate concerts: Jack's Mannequin at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City and Jet at Drake University's Knapp Center in Des Moines.

•  In 2007, The 10,000 Hours Show was officially spun off from the James Gang into the United Way and becoming a nationwide program.
